Broadcast journalism’s Et Cetera takes to cable

Paly’s televised cable newsmagazine Et Cetera, produced by broadcast journalism students, premiered Thursday, March 1 on local channel 28. Hosted by juniors Anique Drumright and Greg Murphy, the first 30 minute edition of Et Cetera consists of segments similar to those on In Focus, featuring Paly-related events. The first episode includes pieces on Rube Goldberg projects, Campanile production week, and a "silly" segment.

According to the show’s student producer junior John Schairer, Et Cetera was created as another outlet for Paly’s broadcast journalism students. "[In Focus advisor] Mike McNulty felt like there were too many talented people that you couldn’t [not] put out more than a five-minute show," Schairer said.

Et Cetera differs from In Focus primarily in length of segments and depth of focus. "We’re able to go into something and expand upon that," Schairer said of Et Cetera’s longer segments. "We can establish more of a professional feel."

The show is intended to occur on a monthly basis, hopefully becoming "a regular thing.” McNulty said that two more episodes are planned.

The next episode, “hopefully [airing] the first week in April, after spring break,” according to McNulty, features a documentary on the boys’ basketball team, hosted by senior In Focus member Nathan Losche.

According to McNulty, the third and final episode, hosted by senior Yuri Daniels and junior Amy Thorne, will air in May.

Once released, Et Cetera episodes appear Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 10 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. on channel 28.
