"Ready, set, go!" parent volunteer Andy Robin yelled. Juniors Alex Stikeleather and Sarah Miller charged forward against their harnesses to retrieve the two footballs five feet in front of them.
Stikeleather dove for the footballs only to be flung back by Miller, attached to her by a bungee cord and pulling on the other side. Miller grabbed the footballs, winning the first of three rounds.
"I love field day," Miller said. "My favorite [activity] was definitely football because I got to compete against my friends."
Miller and other students challenged each other to bungee football, a race in the inflatable obstacle course, and boxing during Paly’s annual field day Friday. The goal of field day according to Student Activities Director Joanne Vaars is to have fun before the end of the year and finals.
Students also enjoyed a free barbecue lunch.
"We had field day at my elementary school in Connecticut, but I was surprised that they have one here in high school," junior Melissa Cetlin said. "My only real disappointment was that there were no veggie burgers."
Lunch included a hotdog, a bag of chips, a cookie and soda or water. Veggie dogs were offered at the beginning of lunch, however Vaars says they soon ran out of them.
Other activities included an astro jump, astro slide and volleyball.
The event was run by parent and teacher volunteers and organized by student council. According to Vaars, the total cost of the event was under $5000 and the money was raised from the sale of student identification cards at the beginning of the year.
