Spring has arrived at last, and with it the Parent’s Club of Palo Alto and Menlo Park’s Spring Boutique from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell Park Community Center.
A dozen community artists will display and sell their crafts; from clothing, baby items, home d?cor, and jewelry to personalized books. The event will showcase artwork by 28 vendors, most of whom are stay-at-home mothers.
“The initial idea was to provide an outlet for entrepreneurial members to show and sell their home crafted products,” event coordinator Jody Buckley, said.
The Spring Boutique will also host a raffle that consists of donations from each vendor. The total value of the raffle is over $1600, and raffle tickets are available for $1, $5, or $7.
“All proceeds from the raffle and event will go to assist Parents of Special Needs Children in creating a lending library of tools and resources,” Buckley said. “It [fundraising for the library] is an ongoing process. They need as much money as they can stand.”
According to Buckley, this Boutique is one of the only ways these artists can reach the community.
“I’m looking forward to seeing fellow artists who are also moms struggling to balance a double life,” vendor Carina Rossner, said. “[I hope to] essentially trade ideas with [the other vendors] about the joy of making the art and the pain of selling the art, all while juggling family.”
Despite the May Fete Parade and the following carnival at Addison Elementary School, people should squeeze the Spring Boutique into their schedules as well.
“People should come for the fundraising aspect and because these vendors’ [crafts] deserve to be seen,” Buckley said.
