Over 1,000 fans showed up at midnight on Friday, Nov. 18 at Century 16 movie theaters at Shoreline to see the fourth movie in the well-known Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
According to movie theater personnel, all four showings of the new flick, which began every 10 minutes starting at midnight, were sold out.
Although many adults were present, the majority of the attendees for the midnight showings were students.
"They say this is supposed to be the best of the four movies," Paly junior Natasha Whitney said. "The Harry Potter books are so entertaining. JK Rowling does such a great job of putting things together."
Several people in the midnight audience had actually gotten a chance to see the movie earlier in a preview showing on Tuesday night.
"Specific important parts and characters from the novel are missing in the movie, which is disappointing," Castilleja School senior Lauren Dunec said. "As a whole, [the movie] is really, really good though."
Besides the many local high school students who came out to watch the film, the large Stanford University student presence could not be overlooked.
"The [Stanford University] freshman are of the Harry Potter generation," one said.
Many students also chose to express their excitement for the new film by dressing up in Harry Potter garb.
"Those people that dress up are so cool," Paly sophomore Hannah McGovern said. "That shows a lot of pride and enthusiasm."
Paly senior Wesley Kerman and his sister Ashley Kerman, who graduated from Paly in 2004, were among those touting Harry Potter apparel.
"Dressing up is fun," Wesley Kerman said. "Harry Potter is awesome."
