Cheering crowds accompanied Palo Alto High School’s wrestling team’s first home dual meet, against Milpitas High School, which ended with a victory for the Vikings, 50-18.
Both the girls’ and boys’ varsity teams performed well, with freshmen Adar Schwarzbach and Halo Lynch winning their first varsity matches, and girls’ varsity finishing with four wins and two losses.
“I’m hyped to be getting varsity wins as a freshman,” Schwarzbach said. “I’m really happy Coach [Jonathan Kessler] gave me the opportunity and I think I made the most of it.”
Though the Paly team lost to Cupertino High School last weekend, it bounced back for the dual meet against Milpitas.
“We dominated Milpitas,” senior Elliot Clark said. “It was good that we beat Milpitas for our first home dual [meet] in the new gym, and it was absolutely great to have a good sized crowd in the stands and walkout music. Next week, we have [a meet against] Gunn [High School] so we’re looking forward to winning that.”
Junior Masa Perez won her matches, 8-0, and is optimistic for the upcoming meet against Gunn.
“Our varsity team killed it today,” Perez said. “They worked extremely hard for this win, and we’ll definitely be working just as hard for Gunn.”
