Several members of the Palo Alto High School boys’ tennis team will compete in Santa Clara Valley Athletic League finals at 1 p.m. today at Paly.

Juniors Jerry Hong, Adrian Smith and Henry Badger, sophomore Hunter North, and freshmen Adam Love and Antony Georgiadis will be representing Paly in the competition. No senior players are participating in SCVAL finals this year.

North said he anticipates that the experience will be good for the younger players.

“With all the seniors gone, all of the underclassmen and less experienced players get a good opportunity to play some of the best players in our league,” North said.

SCVAL results for tennis are based on the performances of the individuals and pairs rather than of the performance of the collective team.

“If one person wins they move on in the bracket,” North said. “If another person loses they are done, regardless of how people from their school are doing.”

SCVALs will draw the Vikings season to a close, as the team was unable to qualify for the Central Coast Section playoffs.

Despite having a difficult season, Badger is looking forward to next year.

“Next year will be better,” Badger said. “I hope we can work on our team cohesiveness and hopefully make CCS next year.”
