The Palo Alto High School girls’ lacrosse team (2-0, 3-3) will take on crosstown rival Gunn High School (3-0, 6-1) at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow on the Titans’ home turf.
The rivalry game is one that always brings school spirit to another level, according to Gunn junior co-captain and midfielder Rachael Tsai.
“The Paly-Gunn game is the one that all of us look forward to the most,” Tsai said. “The competition makes the intensity level so much greater and it makes playing the game even more rewarding when everyone plays hard. It’s also really fun to get all pumped up and spirited about our team.”
The Gunn team anticipates an competative game, according to Gunn junior midfielder Caroline Chou.
“I think our teams are both evenly matched for this to be a tough and interesting one,” Chou said. “Our team has been working hard so I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out on the field.”
The Paly squad will be down several players due to the proximity of the game to the Palo Alto Unified School District spring break. Despite their shortage of players, the Vikings are excited for a competitive game, according to junior midfielder Allie Peery.
“It’s going to be a tough game for sure,” Peery said. “Gunn always comes out really strong and being rivals always makes the game very exciting and aggressive.”
The lady Vikes have been working on refining their skills and not rushing through the motions, according to Peery.
“We have been working a lot on patience, both on the offensive and defensive sides of the field,” Peery said. “Sometimes we all get so excited about playing that it gets chaotic and things fall apart, so we’ve been trying to focus our attention on settling the ball and waiting for the right time instead of rushing.”
With both teams undefeated in league thus far, the Vikings will fight to stay at the top of De Anza league standings as they take on the Titans tomorrow.
