The Vikings crushed any hopes of a close game with an impressive three goal scoring spree in the first three minutes of play. By implementing a tight press-defense and a strong series of offensive counter-attacks, the Vikings quickly took the lead.

Junior utllity Skylar Dorosin led the effort with five goals, including a five-meter penalty shot and multiple goals in transition.

“We went in 100 percent from the start,” Dorosin said. “Our quickness and cohesiveness put us ahead early on.”

The Vikings scored seven goals in the first quarter and continued to bombard Homestead with four goals in the second quarter. Dorosin attributed the barrage of goals to solid offensive precision.

“I think that we kept working for good passes,” Dorosin said. “We executed what we needed to on offense.”
[[nid:23661]] Homestead did not score until the third quarter of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League match. Paly expected Homestead to be fast and counter-intensive, and therefore were ready to play in transition, according to coach Cory Olcott.

“We have to come out hard; Homestead is fast,” Olcott said prior to the game. “We’ve got to make sure we control the tempo and prevent the counter.”

After a series of Paly substitutions, Homestead hole-set Miruna Predescu recorded the Mustangs’ first goal in the final minutes of the third quarter. The team is still developing and still gaining experience, according to Homestead coach Larry Coryell.

“This is a good building year,” Coryell said. “We have a lot of young players.”

Palo Alto finished the game with four goals spread amongst four players in the fourth quarter, while letting in two goals from Homestead. Junior driver Shannon Scheel believes that the surge in offensive efficiency that the Vikings displayed against the Mustangs tonight may foreshadow the Vikings’ much anticipated rematch with Saint Francis High School in the Amanda MacDonald Invitational.

“We really ran our offense solidly for the first time,” Scheel said. “I am confident with this efficiency in our offense we can beat Saint Francis.”

The Vikings will match up against Saint Francis at the Amanda MacDonald Invitational tomorrow at 3:20 p.m. at Menlo College.
