Construction on Paly’s baseball field to replace the grass with synthetic turf will continue over the summer. It should be ready for play by Feb. 1, 2011. – Rachel HarrusPalo Alto High School’s baseball fields and the Churchill parking lot will be undergoing going major renovation over the summer.

The Palo Alto Unified School District hired Gilbane Building Company to supervise the construction job.

“They are redoing the baseball and softball fields and will make a new multi-use field,” Gilbane Pre-Construction Manager Heidi Rank said. “The fields are currently natural grass. They are going to replace the natural-grass infields with synthetic turf, which drains better, so students will be able to practice after it rains.”

Rank hopes that the new baseball fields will be ready in time for the 2011 baseball season. Their projected completion date is Feb. 1, 2010.

In addition, Rank said the Churchill parking lot will also be renovated over the summer. The project should be completed by the beginning of the school year.
