Late Notice performs at NIOS

Not in Our School Week continued on Wednesday after lunch with chalk messages and friendship bracelets to promote student unity, along with a performance by student jazz band Late Notice.

ASB president junior Osceola Ward said he was pleased with the large turnout and felt that the activity created a peaceful atmosphere at Paly.

“I think the activity turned out great,” Ward said. “We were a little worried about people using the chalk in a destructive manner, but we got a lot of positive quotes and hearts and peace signs out there.”

While students chose thread for their friendship bracelets and wrote messages on the walkway, Late Notice performed an array of jazz songs, including “Strodsberg,” “Crazy Race,” “Chameleon,” “Black Nile” and “Freedom Jazz Dance.”

“This was mostly a funk gig, which was pretty fun for us because we got to reach out a little bit and played some more hip hop,” senior tenor saxophone player and keyboardist Elliot Sanborn said. “We did a lot of improvising this time, which was cool.”

Late Notice’s next performance at Paly will be for Baccalaureate, according to Sanborn.
