Girls' basketball pulls out a close win against Milpitas

Paly’s girls’ basketball team pulled out a win over Milpitas, Friday, playing away at Milpitas along with girls’ junior varsity and boys’ varsity and junior varsity teams. The final score, 59-38, speaks for itself, as the girls’ played a tough and impressive game.

Junior Bre Clay, who collected 20 points total on the day, played an important role in the Lady Vikes’ first half success.

"Bre has been an asset to the team all year long," senior Jossy Tseng said. "She is really aggressive on defense, which creates a lot of turnovers on the other team. Without her, we wouldn’t have won against Milpitas."

Tseng, who contributed 19 points for Paly, came to play in the second half. Although the girls lost momentum in the third quarter, they were able to pull it out in the fourth.

"Jossy is so quick and extremely aggressive," senior small-forward Sara Schulte said. "She is so focused on the court; she is not only physically tough, but mentally tough." Schulte also contributed to the win Friday.

Clay, Tseng, and Schulte were also pivotal in Paly’s first league game on Tuesday against Lynbrook. Tseng scored 15 points; Schulte scored 12, and Clay scored 10. Overall, Paly was victorious, 56-26.

Given that the girls’ only loss last year was to Milpitas, the win is a significant achievement. They stand 13-4 overall and 2-0 in league. The team plays Saratoga Wednesday at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home, then Los Gatos at 6 p.m. Friday at home.

"We are all playing well, working together," Tseng said. "We definitely have a good chance of being league champs and going far in CCS. We just have to keep up the hard work."
