Boys’ tennis hopes to recover from disappointing season

The Palo Alto High School boys’ Varsity Tennis team licks its wounds after a disappointing season with a league record of 2-10. However, team members remain hopeful for a turn-around next season.

The Vikings started off the season with a tough loss to cross-town rivals Gunn and continued to struggle with an alternating record of wins and losses. Despite a strong showing in many of their matches, the team’s overall record ended as 5-10.

Furthermore, with seniors Hunter North, John Loftus, Omar Mohamed, Paarth Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Andrew Shieh and Preston Sterling all leaving this year, the boys’ tennis team will only be left with half of its previous size.’

Amidst this grim situation, sophomore Samuel Xing hopes that the team will be able to attract fresh talent and regain members.

“Even though we’ll be losing a lot of key team members once the year is over, I’m sure that the current members and any new members next year will be able to pick up the slack and improve from this year, ” Xing said.

Junior Bryant Chen also looks towards the future as an opportunity for him to improve his game and bounce back from a tough season.

“Even though this past season was tough, I’m looking forward to the next season and improving my skills as a tennis player and just a team member overall,” said Chen. “I hope I’ll be able to contribute a lot to the team.”

The next season is shaping up to be one without the support of a large of a base of seniors, but the members of the boys’ tennis team remain confident in their chances next year.
